An Epic Journey a play by Saltmine Theatre Company

An Epic Journey - from Beginning to End in an hour!

The recent Week of Prayer for Christian Unity invited churches throughout the UK to come together to celebrate their shared faith. A key point of ‘common ground’ is our belief in the power and importance of the Bible. But how do we keep our passion for familiar texts alive and fresh? Moreover, how can we communicate God’s Word in a compelling way to others?

Part of the registered charity Saltmine Trust, Saltmine Theatre Company is a professional Christian theatre company that has been touring to churches, schools and theatres since 1985. Within the last 12 months, Saltmine’s twelve actors and 2 technicians staged 460 performances of 18 different productions to around 82,000 adults and young people. This included a sell-out show at Spring Harvest, a week’s residence at the Edinburgh Fringe and performances of street theatre in London during the Olympics. Saltmine’s aim is to create faith-motivated art and in 2009 the company partnered with Wycliffe Bible Translators to produce From Eden to Eternity.

From Eden to Eternity

Welcome to the story of everything! See the Bible brought to life on stage in an hour (or so)! Journey with us through tragedy and tears, music and mirth, serpents and salvation!

Between 2009 and 2011, Saltmine toured this production in association with Wycliffe to over 60 venues. In April 2012, following a successful Easter tour, From Eden to Eternity was performed to a full house at Spring Harvest Skegness and then at the annual Scripture Union Leaders Conference.

'Wonderfully compelling and touching, with emotions laid bare one minute and humorous the next, with witty banter and slapstick. It was a wonderful witness’
(Audience member, 2011)

“This production was a great help and blessing to a friend of mine who has only been a Christian for a year and although he reads his bible he struggles as he is severely dyslexic. The production put in to context something for him that he would otherwise find quite difficult to grasp by reading or listening to a talk”
(Audience member, 2009)

Saltmine will tour the production again in June 2013, and dates are available to book. Our vision would be that booking this production would be a practical exercise in church unity: churches in the same area would work together to find a venue, promote the performance and share the costs involved.

The play lasts for about an hour and is suitable for all aged 12 and over.
This production requires a venue with a performance space of 20ft width by 20ft depth by 20ft height (6m by 6m by 6m) which should be completely clear and on one level. The Saltmine team of five will need access to the venue five hours before the start of the show to set up. They will finish packing up about an hour and a half after the show ends.

Tour Dates: 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 9th, 13th, 14th, 15th June 2013
Ministry Gift: £755 + travel costs.
This books a team of five people for a day, and includes publicity. This is not subject to VAT.
